“I previously owned a pair of Shure E2s, which are less expensive but also don’t have sound as natural, musical, and enjoyable as the Monster Pro Gold. But they lasted many years in mainly gym and bus use before the cables began to start cracking. They still sounded fine, but I thought maybe it was time to upgrade to better sounding phones. I had certainly received my money’s worth from the Shure pair. It’s difficult to know which phones to buy using a website like Amazon since everyone has their peculiar likes and dislikes. I have no idea if you will think the sound of the Monster Gold Pro worth the price. But here are a few things I’ve noticed about them:
The main thing you WON’T LIKE especially if you run or use the treadmill in the gym is that the sound of the cables rubbing against your body will transmit directly to your ears. The Shure phones were less sensitive. I think an expensive set of hifi earbuds should not have this problem, as people commonly want to use them during activity, not sitting on the sofa. Yes, there are ways you can minimize the distraction, and Monster does provide a handy clip that can help prevent the cables from moving excessively during activity.
Second, the Monster cables are a bit too short. I have found that I miss the slightly extra length cable on the Shure in some circumstances. The Monster is long enough to reach from your trouser pocket to your ears.
The Monster ear inserts (foam or rubber) are more comfortable for long duration listening, such as on a plane, than the various Shure inserts which always made my ears itch after protracted use. I have achieved a better sound isolating seal with the Monster buds which probably results in improved bass as well as reduced external noise. I used different ones for each ear because it turns out my ear canals are slightly different. The Monster Gold Pro comes with a wide range of different styles – try them all to see what works best for your ears.

“These headphones have given me more trouble than any other pair I have ever used. I did a lot of research on the Monster Turbine Pro Golds and saw that the general consensus was that they were worth the high price. Naturally, I waited for the price to drop to around $250 before purchasing these. I am not experienced with sound quality but I had felt that my previous headphones were lacking that something that these have brought to my music. These headphones sound AMAZING!!! They make everything sound better and reveal sounds in the music that seemed absent before. My first impressions were that these headphones were the best thing to ever happen to my ears. On top of the fantastic sound quality they are very comfortable, so much so that I initially fell asleep not knowing they were still in. However, after about a month of use one side went out completely. One strike isn’t so bad. So , I sent my product back to Monster and received the replacement within 2 weeks. The wait was hard because these things sound incredible. So another month of musical bliss passed until the second pair did the exact same thing. At this point I thought hmm, Is this going to happen every month? As I write this now they have just broken again in the same way and its been another month. This irritating monthly replacement is frustrating mostly because these headphones were $250, and as a student took me about 3 months to save up for.
One other thing, I have very small ear canals. I got the worst ear infection I’ve ever had last month. It lasted an entire month. This may or may not have to do with my use of these but my doctor seemed to think it did. So if you have small ear canals like me steer clear of pretty much all in ear headphones. Overall I’ve had very mixed feeling about these. They changed my perceptions of quality sound but are faulty and break every month like clockwork. Don’t buy these, find another more durable headphone with the same quality.
Review Update: I feel like an idiot this time because it was my iPod that was broken and not these earphones. So I received 3 defective units and the current one I have is the charmer. Definitely buy these they are awesome if only for the lifetime warranty because its essentially like getting a new free pair of earphones if anything happens to them. For a one time fee be in blissful aural heaven your entire life. “
